This is Ion Chamber Model RO-2A, manufactured by Eberline. Serial number 793. It's used, and in very good condition. If you're looking for a professional quality dose rate meter, this is an excellent choice. If I had gotten on a plane to help the folks at Fukushima, I would have taken this along. This model features easy range switching for measuring dose rates on scales of
0-50 mR/hr
0-500 mR/hr
0-5 R/hr
0-50 R/hr
It also has a rugged sliding "beta window" on the bottom which allows you to detect the presence of beta-emitters. The mylar under the sliding beta shield has a noticeable dent, but it does not affect the operability.
The meter is powered by four standard 9-volt batteries. I've owned it for a few years, and it's performed consistently on source checks.
I worked in about twenty US nuclear plants. Every one of them was well-stocked with this meter. And of the hundreds of radiation protection technicians I worked with, not a one ever expressed anything except compliments about the RO-2A.
