The bunker starting with its role as an RAF ROTOR Station, then had a brief period as a civil defence centre through to its most recent life as a Regional Government HQ. Designed for up to 600 military and civilian personnel, possibly even the Prime Minister, their collective task being to organise the survival of the population in the awful aftermath of a nuclear war.

Deep in the wilds of Essex, lays a mystery only recently uncovered. For over 40 years the

nuclear bunker at Kelvedon Hatch was kept secret from the rest of the world. In 1992, the

bunker was finally given over to the public. Hidden beneath a hill and 100 foot down in the

earth, the three-floored self-contained units would house government officials and military

commanders if the cold war happened and a nuclear bomb was dropped on the country.

Imagine the fear and isolation felt by the hundreds of re-enactments held over the past

decade.

Reported Paranormal Activity

Over the years there have been many reported sightings and paranormal activity in the building.

• miserable atmospheres

Could it be the ghost of the alleged workman who fell into the vast lake ofconcrete poured out during the construction of the bunker. His body apparently has never been found.
