Join UKPN for an investigative experience at Washington Old Hall.
The Avenue, Washington Village, Washington, Tyne & Wear NE38 7LE
Washington Old Hall is a delightful stone-built 17th-century manor house, which incorporates parts of the original medieval home of George Washington's direct ancestors. Originally a wooden Saxon Hall mentioned in a charter of 973, the first stone hall at Washington was built in 1183. A fragment of this medieval hall is visible in the internal wall between the kitchen and the adjoining hall where two central arches are separated by a central pillar form an entrance to the kitchens.
