Welcome to When Skies are Grey - the Evertonian Fanzine.
WSAG is changing this year to a digital publication.
After almost a quarter of a century, we've decided to head indoors. No more standing in the cold and rain around Goodison Park selling an increasingly soggy issue. (And yes, you could always have a dry one. And no, it's still not the programme.)
When Skies Are Grey started in 1988, during that first heady rush of the fanzine boom. The plan, very simply, was to give supporters a platform. To this day, although the appearance of the mag has changed radically – we threw away the Pritt Stick years ago – that aim has never changed.
Moving to digital issues is another step in this direction, allowing us to produce a better, more up-to-date magazine.
We accept that moving away from paper will be seen as a radical step by some. I suppose it is. However with fixtures sometimes as much as three weeks apart and getting staged all over the weekend at increasingly ridiculous times it is a necessary one. We have to change. We can't keep ourselves tied to only being available for two hours before a home game.
Our plan is simple. WSAG will be available as a digital download from Exact Editions. Exact Editions produce digital issues for a number of fanzines including United We Stand (Manchester United) and True Faith (Newcastle) but I think we are the first digital only production.
We are also working with Exact Editions to produce an app which will be on available through Itunes. We will have that sorted very soon.
The best way to purchase WSAG will be through our season-long subscription offer. And, it's worth adding that the price of subscriptions will drop dramatically as we don't have to include postage costs any more. This will have a massive impact on the costs to our foreign subscribers in particular.
