dreamshade is a new band coming from switzerland, a country with a non so great tradition in heavy metal apart from 2-3 great bands like coroner and celtic frost. these guys are into melodic death metal in the vein of dark tranquility and they are pretty good."to the edge of reality" contains 5 songs that come with a very good production and this is the first plus of this newcomer band. the second one is the great artwork. a booklet with all lyrics and relevant info is included here and the whole package is very good for the buyer. the third and most important is the music we have here. melodic death metal with influences from the swedish scene and bands like dark tranquility and in flames. heavy songs with very good guitars, other times harsh and others melodic. theres also a very good use of keyboards. most of the times they have a discrete role in the background but when is needed they take a first role in the song.this ep is a very good suggestion to all of you who like melodic death metal. dreamshade made a very powerful entry to the scene and i hope they will be able to continue in the same high standards.

dreamshade - to the edge of realityself-released 2008country: italygenre: melodic death metalband website: www.myspace.com / dreamshadebandgood works: falling, venom of lifealbum lenght: 28:00italians regardless of the type of music has always played melodic, dreamshade is not a deviation from this rule. on the contrary, the musicians of dreamshade combine all the elements known for melodic death metal, and symphonic black metal from the trade of catamenia or whether our polish darzamat. nice, but still brutal with a familliar cliche.to describe the content of the album, the focus must be on two important elements. namely, on the above-mentioned melody, with a large dose of harmony, and on the kind of space which is an integral part of sounds created by the italians. indeed, if anyone wants or not, this kind of music must contain certain elements that was patented long ago, just to name a few of the authors of these, in flames, dark tranquility or children of bodom. some played less violently, others more melancholiac, and the last with a very melodic heavy metal jams. however, all these bands gave the groundwork for a whole new species which are also an influence for dreamshade. although it is difficult to actually think of something fresh and new in the melodic / metal symphony dreamshade is not a band that would be the acquired of this.to the edge of reality, is a material recorded with the passion and dedication, this is materia

this is material does not contain even a bit of or baloney nor poser crap.. it is by no means the music which in their case flows straight from their hearts.i like nice transition from acute death metal impact to a more climate play. i think that playing with a mood in the case of dreamshade is what they captured almost perfectly. once again, however, it will not be anything new, but what about this, the same bread from a bakery one can taste well during your all life. bread baked by dreamshade at least should give them in their country an assured way to the desired success. a can and abroad, this play never quite, so even if they only put these keys to the background, and the synths will perform only this (background) role i would be fully satisfied. automatically then will raise the guitar volume and in a result their compositions would have more power. although the material defends itself, i wish all young bands so good first releases.and i would be forgotten. too bad that on the to the edge of reality is so little amount of clean vocals. iko could sing more than just yell and growl. this guy has a good voice and could take advantage of this. maybe on the debut album we will have an opportunity tohear more real clean voice singing than only the brutal expression. so, if youre a fan of in flames, dark tranquility or catamenia, dreamshade should meet all your needs.

swiss six-piece dreamshade were only formed two years ago, yet on debut ep to the edge of reality they show a level of quality that many bands don’t get with ten times as much experience! nearly everything about this release is impressive, from the music itself that perfectly balances the melodic and aggressive elements, to the artwork. self-produced and self-released, this is the calling card of a band that is sure to go places if they can keep to this standard in future releases. the near-progressive genre-wandering works perfectly, power metal, thrash and even black all touched upon in the course of opener our buried secrets; the ep overall best described as a cross between iron maiden and dark tranquillity. next song falling adds whispered vocals to the sonic template, and take on epic qualities thanks to the restrained keyboards (use of which is varied, with even a solo in venom of life, although the guitars rightfully have the focus throughout). it’s all played expertly, and thankfully there aren’t any metalcore breakdowns to spoil the effect – these guys clearly love the old-school.it’s hard to think of negative points. vocalist iko has a nasty snarl that will take a bit of getting used to, but it doesn’t detract from the music’s value. otherwise, this is melodic death metal, and the chances are that you’ve heard something similar before. when it’s as good as this, however, the genre is always worth listening to, especially in this case where th

especially in this case where the focus is on the roots of the genre rather than the bloated modern army of clones it’s becoming. the songwriting needs a little work, as some of the tracks here meander a little too much, but it makes for a set of songs that force you to really listen to get the most out of them, and heralds a bright future indeed for the band. keep an eye out for dreamshade; it’ll be worth it.
