How do I get a domain name?
Once you complete the steps below your webstore will appear on your own domain name (e.g. www.shopname.com) instead of www.freewebstore.org/shopname.
We cannot recommend highly enough hosting your webstore on your own domain name.
Step 1
If you do not already own a domain name visit the link below to purchase one. You can get a good domain name for only a few dollars or pounds.
Step 2
This step may vary depending on who hosts your domain name, however, it usually follows a similar proceedure. Although it may seem confusing to begin with, it is actually as simple as typing a few words into a box.
- Firstly, you will need to login to the website of whichever company you opted to register the domain with and look for the DNS Settings (detailed instruction can be found below).
- You will then need to point the WWW record to CNAME shop.freewebstore.org.
- While sounding very technical, all this entails is looking down the list to find the record marked "WWW" and making sure the "CNAME" has "shop.freewebstore.org" typed after it (see the image below).

Step 3
- Once you have your domain name, simply log into your Free Webstore Control Panel and select Domain Names from the Main Menu.
- Scroll down to Step 3 and enter your domain name.
- Click Add Domain.
- It normally takes a few hours to fully activate the change (in some very rare cases, it can take upto 48 hours, although it is normally much less than that).
- Once this has been done, your webstore will now be live on your domain name!
