How do I setup Google Shopping?

In order to access the Google Shopping features of Free Webstore, you must first have your own domain name for your webstore. For more information on getting a domain name, please see our Domain Names Help Guide.

Setting up a Google Base Account

Users are now required to set up their own Google Base account with which to upload their products to Google Shopping. These free accounts can be created at http://base.google.com. Once you have a Google Base account, simply follows these steps:

• Log into your Free Webstore Control Panel and select Google Shopping from the Main Menu.
• Select whether you want to upload your products to Google.co.uk (UK version) or Google.com (USA version).
• Enter your Google Base username and password and click Save.

Uploading Products

• Ensure you have entered your Google Base username and password as discussed above.
• Once that has been done, log into your Free Webstore Control Panel and select Google Shopping from the Main Menu.
• The page will now display how many of your products are:-
  • Unlisted - These are products which HAVE NOT been upload to Google Shopping.
  • Uploaded - These are products which HAVE been uploaded to Google Shopping.
  • Errors - These are products which have been uploaded but have been rejected by Google, typically due to the product failing to meet Google's editorial guidelines.
  • You may also see a message warning you that a certain number of products are currently ineligible for Google Upload (usually due to missing product information i.e. no price set).
• To upload your unlisted products, simply click on the Unlisted link and then choose to upload your products one at a time or select Upload All to send them all at once.

Removing Products

• To remove your uploaded products, simply click on the Uploaded link and then choose to remove your products one at a time or select Remove All to remove them all at once.

Editing Products

Once a product has been uploaded, you can log into your Google Base account at http://base.google.com to update, edit and remove your products.

What can I do about Errors?

Unfortunately, Google supplies very little specific information on why a product has errored. Below are a few possible causes that we can suggest, however it is by no means a definite list:

• It appears that sometimes products with too much keyword repetition in the name or description can cause a product to error (possibly because Google sees it as an attempt to "spam").
• Avoid using too many exclamation marks or uppercase letters.
• Sometimes specific words can cause an error. A few such words we have encountered that have previously caused errors are "replica" and "signature".

Unfortunately, if you do receive errors there is very little we can do to determine what may have caused it. We would simply suggest that you contact Google directly and see if they can provide any answers.
