Part -2 : Combat Conditioning Drills & Sparring Approaches
La canne and Savate instructor Craig Gemeiner reveals the long forgotten techniques of Pierre Vigny’s walking stick method of self defense.
Combat conditioning drills:
Part -2 of this video takes the skills learnt in part 1 and integrates them into a variety of specialized drills and exercises that can be practiced alone or with a partner.
These drills will develop correct mind set (training with intent), mobility, striking power, combat fitness, grip integrity, and will take your technical ability to another level. The drills presented in this video are ideal for the modern practitioner of stick fighting, no matter what style they practise.
Sparring:
Included in part-2 we show you how to apply the skills learnt in volume-1 against a resisting training partner, using two different sparring approaches.
Controlled sparring:
This approach allows La canne Vigny practitioners to engage in sparring using minimal protective equipment in a relatively safe manner against a resisting training partner. Controlled sparring allows you to express your skills and experiment with tactics without taking hard knocks to your body. A number of ‘themed’ sparring rounds are included, and will open up ideas for students to create their own sparring approaches.
Contact sparring:
The role of contact sparring is explored within the context of the Vigny system, and includes a breakdown of mind set, protective equipment , target selection and the appropriate sticks /canes to be used.
The goal is to safely engage in contact sparring in order to highlight ones strengths and weakness, while minimizing complications from long term blunt trauma exposure.
The combination of controlled and contact sparring will provide a balanced approach to your overall training.
