Remnants Special Edition

Remnants Special Edition Summary

"...Evoking thoughts of the Celtic wilderness, times and loves through the power of the acoustic guitar..."

This album delivers the traditional Celtic side of Jonathan Kershaw's repertoire. Simply inspired by requests for recordings of these pieces used during live performances they are collated here on one CD. All the pieces are arranged for solo acoustic guitar (although several pieces actually use twin guitars to enhance the sound) and provide an entwining web of fleet melody lines and bouncing bass line movements.

This special edition of "Remnants" (only available as a CD) also contains a bonus track featuring the outstanding vocal ability of Beck Sian. Beck is cousin to English Singer Kate Bush and provides an incredibly haunting rendition of one of Jonathan's own tunes, "Clocks & Mirrors"; the original of which can be found on his album "Bizarre Tales".

Remnants - Andrew Shaw - 18/01/2015
Remnants is billed as an EP, but is actually a generous 10 track collection, showcasing the traditional Celtic influences that underpin the music of Jonathan Kershaw. I was immediately struck by the richly authentic and almost raw feel to the recording squeaks and other playing noises have not been edited out of the recording, so this work has the feel of a live rendition of the set. Jonathan treats us to virtuoso performances of a dazzling, almost hypnotic series of reels, airs and jigs. Remnants can only further enhance Jonathan s musical journey. In an age of tribute acts and talent shows, it is heartening to know there are still independent gifted producers of original music out there. The final track is exclusive to the special edition. Jonathan has reworked an earlier original song Clocks and Mirrors with a new vocal accompaniment with his collaborator, the acclaimed folk noir soprano Beck Sian with whom he has travelled around the UK on their Beautiful Ghosts and Bizarre Tales Tour. Remnants makes a very worthy addition to the music collection of all lovers of Celtic and guitar music traditional or progressive. Jonathan s care and attention to detail is a joy to behold even down to the design of the beautiful album artwork.
