About Me - www.sophielong.co.uk
After studying for my A-levels in textiles, business studies and psychology at Heathside Sixth Form in Weybridge, I started my apprenticeship at The Royal School of Needlework, Hampton Court Palace
During the three years I have learned a wide variety of traditional embroidery techniques including stumpwork, goldwork, silk shading and whitework to the highest level.
I really enjoy all aspects of hand embroidery especially the development of the traditional techniques to more contemporary and creative pieces.
After completing the apprenticeship I worked part time in the Royal School of Needlework Studio, where I was very lucky to work on a huge range of different embroideries, including the large hangings which were created for Dover Castle.
I now work as a embroidery teacher for the Royal School Of Needlework and for a number of other organisations. I also carry out a range of different commissions for individuals.
