The holistic approach to life and health was first introduced in this classic work (originally published in 1926). The concept of holism essentially held that things which are whole, with no parts damaged or missing, have a natural advantage in terms of actual survival and success. The roots of this holistic approach to life are traced back through the gradual stages of development in our world, embracing the sciences, the arts, and the human spirit. The interaction of mind, body and spirit in the human experience is acknowledged and explored. An excellent foundation for understanding holistic health.
Holism and Evolution **** "The idea of wholes and wholeness should therefore not be confined to the biological domain; it covers both inorganic substances and the highest manifestations of the human spirit."
"There is not only poetic value but profound truth in the spiritual interpretation of Nature to which Wordsworth and other great poets of Nature have accustomed us. That truth is not merely due to the creative part which mind plays in the shaping and fashioning of Nature. It is not merely that we invest Nature with our own emotional attributes. It is, in fact, to be traced to far deeper sources in our human origins."
"For we are indeed one with Nature; her genetic fibers run through all our being ... some distant sound, some call of bird or smell of wild plants, or some sunrise or sunset glow in the distant clouds, some mixture of light and shade on the mountains, may suddenly throw an unearthly spell over the spirit, lead it forth from the deep chambers, and set it panting and wondering with inexpressible emotions."
This classic book created the concept and word "holistic" in 1926. The growing popularity of holistic health and a more natural way of fife is only the first of many ways this thoughtful approach to fife is changing the world we live in.
Much of the attractiveness of holistic health and the natural life can be traced to the sympathetic chord they have struck with millions of people seeking a more balanced life. But this did not happen by accident. As you will see, the holistic approach to life is so deeply in tune with everything that happens in the world around us that it naturally stirs something profound and satisfying within us.
Yet holistic concepts go even further. They are so much in step with the world that they are amazingly successful. Successful helping people heal themselves faster and better than by other means. Successful helping people bombarded with troubles to find peacefulness amid a beautiful and compelling view of the world. Successful helping people shift from fighting the world around them to embracing it and harnessing its normal ebb and flow so that it carries them where they want to go.
Already, the groundswell of natural, holistic methods are flowing into many other parts of our lives, and will almost certainly become the surging trends of tomorrow.
