The Bridge of Sighs and New Court are the work of the little known firm of Rickman and Hutchinson built between 1826 and 1831. They were constructed at the same time as Wilkin's Porters Lodge and Screen at Kings, and have a very strong stylist relationship, both being delightful examples of the early, pre Houses of Parliament, Gothic Revival. The buildings to the right are the last phases of Third Court built in the 1660s following the Restoration. The use of Dutch gables is a sign of just how influential the United Provinces were in this period, when they fought three naval wars with England, and Amsterdam was the wealthiest City in Europe.
