The Old Quad and Tower date from the 1500s and form a delightfully irregular composition of Tudor buildings with windows and doorways placed to suit what lay behind, and the Tower not quite in the middle. In the 1620s the unusual and distinctive Second Floor was added, and these splayed stone dormers oddly, given their date, make the Quad seem more medieval. The intricate spire of the University Church dates from 1320 and so would have always been there. Gibbs crashed the party in the 1740s with the looming dome of the Radcliffe Camera. Brasenose has a very beautiful chapel, one of those very English conflations of Gothic and Classical dating from the 1650s by the otherwise unknown John Jackson.
